Catholic dogma in the Koran
Often enough there's talk about things in the Koran that are problematic for the catholic faith. Then it'll be quite the surprise that the opposite is true as well. Mario Joseph is an imam from India who converted by studying the Koran. An interview with him initiated this listing of affirmations of the catholic faith.
[Koran references are shown as: (sura:vers)]
♥ Jesus (Isa) received revelations from God (Allah 2:136, 4:163, 19:30),
was given the Gospel (3:48, 3:84, 5:46, 5:110, 57:27),
came to confirm the Law and should be obeyed (3:50, 43:63),
possesses the Holy Spirit (2:87, 2:253, 4:171, 5:110),
is taken up into Heaven (3:55),
is the sign of the end-times (43:61),
will return to defeat the anti-Christ. (Hadith)
♥ Mary (Maryam), Jesus’ mother, is the only women mentioned in the Koran (Qu’ran),
a woman of truth (5:75),
ever virgin (19:20-22, 21:91),
received the Holy Spirit and is a sign for the world (21:91, 23:50),
without sin just like Jesus (Hadith)
and taken up with Jesus. (23:50)
♥ Jesus is the example, but is ridiculed (43:57),
the new Adam (3:59),
righteous (3:46, 6:85),
blessed and receives prayer and charity (19:31),
is alive (4:157),
is holy (19:19),
the Christ (Messiah), the Word of God, honoured by everyone (3:45),
a miracle worker, can even create & give life! (3:49, 5:110)
♥ Jesus appointed apostles (3:52, 61:14),
with power (61:14),
his followers have compassion and pity (57:27),
are strengthened by the Holy Spirit [of similar nature as God] (58:22)
and [so] superior. (3:55)
∆ This implies that, with Jesus as creating Word of God and a divine Holy Spirit, the Koran surprisingly does indeed (implicitly) teach the Trinity!
What it rejects is a collection of three gods, of Jesus and Maria as gods separate from God (5:116)
and that God took Mary as His wife to physically generate Jesus as their son. (6:101, 72:3)
”If you doubt about what We sent down to you [Koran], then ask those that already have been reading the scriptures [Bible] before you.” (10:94)
The one tradition from Abraham, via Moses and up to Jesus may (namely) not be broken. (42:13)
