On Life, the Universe and Everything
Let's have a bit of nerdy spiritual fun here{;-)
The post title reflects the Ultimate Question from H2G2 (as fans call it). Something like: what to do with Life or specifically our individual daily Choices? or what Purpose does our existence have? The book says that after finding the Answer (42), they realised that that only has meaning if we know the Specific Question. Like in the sense of: how exactly should we strive for Happiness? The book suggests further that the Answer and the Question can't exists simultaneously in the same Universe, something like: to determine its meaning is the actual purpose of Everything!?Pretty much at the end, the Question ”what is six multiplied by nine?” is found; something must have gone horribly wrong! Or perhaps ’nonsense’ is the Answer (eh Question?) / it's not about being logical, but about thinking outside of the cage? That ’logic’ applied to 42 itself could say that the Answer is: (the sum of the marks on) t(w)o di(c)e! [NB 4 is 'shi' in Chinese and 2 'ni' in Japanese; together, 'shini' can be written in kanji as 死に, which also means 'to die'!?] As binary numbers it's 101010, thrice the full binary base, a sort of trilogy of everything? As product of prime factors 42 = 3x1x2x7, exactly the numbers refering to the Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Their essence is Deus Caritas est with letter count of 14, which tripled brings us back to 42. Perhaps you see this as a cheap trick so let's write it out in full: Et Pater et Filius et Spiritus Sanctus Caritas est of which the letter count is, well you get it...
As Love is the Trinity's essence, so the divine qualities Truth-Beauty-Goodness can be linked to each of the three Persons: the Father who Is, the Son who Reveals and the Spirit who Acts. All the qualities come together in the Cross, where He is present in our greatest suffering, reveals the reach of His Love for us and sacrifices Himself in our place. Yet the Cross has four arms, as if Creation is invited to join. The number four namely points to Creation (east-south-west/north, autumn-winter-spring/summer, 4 moon phases, earth-wind-water/fire, solid-liquid-gas/plasma, 4-fold bond of carbon as the base of life, 3 space & 1 time-dimensions, electromagnetism-strong&weak nuclear forces/gravity...), but it's generally 3+1 so pseudo-trinitarian.And Creation has participated, most perfectly in the person of the Immaculate Daughter of the Father, Virgin Mother of the Son and Exalted Bride of the Holy Spirit; so from the center of the Trinity she is exquisitely equipped to Witness God's wonder, to Advocate for us and be our Example. Her complete and unconditional Fiat made her into THE Mediatrix, Advocate and Co-redemptrix (actually a calling for all Christians) such that Mary fully accepted the above-mentioned invitation and thus well took up the 4th arm in the sign of the Cross.
By the way did you know there are three levels of Total Triumph: 1) the complete disempowerment of your enemy 2) to make it happen by his own deeds 3) let your most humble servant (the Woman clothed with the Sun) take care of it?!
Blaise Pascal already knew that God is "not here or there, nor inside or outside us, but everywhere." A comparison from mathematics can actually be made in the countable numbers {0, 1, 2, 3...} that can never fill the real axis {R} or for that, take anything away from it. So also we can look everywhere yet not see God; or even see God everywhere and still haven't seen anything of Him. Similarly, real Redemption is not so much the crossing from a life without God to a life with God, let alone to go to Heaven after death; no it is realising that God has always been there already (like Freddy Mercury has sung: my LIFE has been saved)!
And so Redemption brings us beyond perfection; strength to carry our sufferings suffices. Various images exist to express the pain that purifies e.g. an oven for gold or a laser for a glass figure; a further image expressing our inability to save ourselves is a solar-powered car too far from the Sun: only the descent of the Son can get it going again. Yet we do have a choice, as CS Lewis wrote: "there are two kinds of people, those who say to God 'Thy Will be Done' and those to whom God says 'well then, have it your own way'”(!) Would you rather be a turtle, hard on the outside and soft on the inside, or Man: sensitive with a strong core? ;-)
